*Update* Little Eric's Mother

She's better now, though still on fluid. Continue to pray for her!

Prayer - Little Eric's Mother

MGC-ians would know that little Eric is the little rascal (the rascalest, be there such a word) in the Children's Hour.

On Saturday, 1 am, after the CNY makan, his mother was admitted into GH because she had difficulty breathing while in the bathroom. Eric's father says that she has diabetes and hypertension, so it could be that she had a heart problem. The last update said that she had fluid in her lung and was using an oxygen mask.

I don't know the latest update about her but will update when I get it from Auntie Yu Ming (I hope she's fine already).

Imagine how confused little Eric must be when he sees his mum in the hospital.

Pray for her k?

Pre-CNY Makan - 23 February 2008 (Sat)

~ 4.30 pm, after Singspiration ~

Sharma speaks.

Topic: The Parable of the Unworthy Servant
Passage: Luke 17 : 7 - 10

I'll post the gist (isi penting) of what he spoke on the next time round, so as not to make this a really long post k? In the meantime, read Yen's post on the passage.

~ 6.30 pm, after Youth ~

The kids wanted to take pictures with my phone, so I had to delete the one with the audience watching the screenplay. Sorry ya. The photos for the actual event (CNY makan), I will leave the the professional photographer (me = photography noob) to put up.

By the way...

HI! MARCUS AND JEREMY!

Uncle Ivan said you guys pray for us all the time T_T Thank you so much! And so sorry for sometimes not updating the blog. We will do our best to update as often as possible. Thanks for dropping by!

DMSJ Quiz 2008

Firstly, wanna thank Yen for berusaha-ing for the shirt, as in not only designing it, but also going hunting for a printer and paying in advance for the shirts. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Alright.

Next up is the DMSJ Quiz. Details confirmed are as follows:

8 March 2008, Saturday
  • 2.30pm - Arrival of Guests & Registration
  • 3.30pm - 4.30pm - Afternoon Games & Tea
  • 7.30pm - Dinner in MGC
  • 8.30pm - Fellowship Night
  • 10.30pm - Supper & Back to Campus (just a cun word la, not really campus)
9 March 2008, Sunday
  • 9.00am - 10.00am - Worship & Sermon
  • 10.30am - Physical Preparation for Quiz while the people makan
  • 11.00am - DMSJ Quiz! ...+ Prize Giving
  • 1.30pm - Lunch
  • 2.30pm - Guests go home
Yes, the election is on 8 March, but the other churches have assured us that they will be here early. So the cancellation of the afternoon session has now been cancelled (do ya follow me? =P)

Some stuff are still not confirmed though, such as the place we're using for the afternoon session. Cuz our church obviously not big enough for the 150 people we're expecting. Let's say our field somehow got space la -- but if it rains, we'll need to play inside the church. And that will present a problem, because even during the RBS Night, the place wasn't exactly spacious with just 3 groups of people huddled at corners of the hall. So if we have 150, that would mean everybody just stand where they are and o-peng with each other for like an hour.

Option #1 Hall in the Wesley Centre, where the guests would be staying. If it doesn't rain, we can maybe even go down to the field to play. If it rains, we have a hall to stick to. Plus transport is well taken care of, and it would be pretty convenient for the guests and us.

Option #2 Tmn Sayang Selasih field. Then Kiat Siong can come along too, since his mother doesn't allow him to come to church d. But transport would be a problem, cuz the taman isn't exactly very near the church. Then after that have to patah balik to church somemore, and then to the Centre.

Option #3 MGC. Then we can o-peng all day =) (I'm quite good at o-peng wakaka)

Oh ya, I also thought Auntie Yu Ming's introduction to the minutes of meeting last week was pretty interesting (I never knew minutes needed such an introduction):
As each day passes, the exciting DMSJ Quiz seems to draw closer and nearer. MGC, who after 4 years, play host for the 2nd time, again experience excitement and busy work activities. All these enthusiastic feelings of work load, both physical and mental, are part and parcel of the event preparation. So whatever task designated for each one of us in MGC - regardless whether we are in the committee and not keeping count of who does more or less work - let us work together as a team and encourage one another with love. May God's presence be in the midst of all who take part and keep them in the best of health. And to our bro. Rodney who is the co-ordinator for the whole event, may God will all his plans.
Yup, I copied everything exactly as she wrote it (except the emphases), including the shorthand stuff, which, as you can see, is pretty absent in here. (keng!)

Anyway, again, I repeat:
MGC-ians! Please make it for DMSJ!

MGC official 2008 teeshirt.

this is the front:

this is the back:

i'm taking a risk with the shading. too bad it can't be applied in other color background coz i drew it no white in the first place. sorry to those hoping to have other than white. i asked for a baby blue colored background and checked the fitting but it's super ugly.so i stick to white. but the shading part....i'm not sure how it will turn out. but shud be alright since it's white background. try applying the 'number of dots per area' theory. the more dots the darker is the color.

the sixes are XS, M, L, XL.

Upcoming Events and Other Updates

The Children's Hour Chinese New Year Dinner is this Saturday. Check the upcoming events at the bottom of the blog (purposely wanna train you all to check our mini bulletin board =P). Anyway, the youth are cordially invited to go, and so food will be prepared for us! Yay! I think it's 7.30pm, but I'll confirm it and correct the Mini Bulletin Board (hey this name ain't half bad) if it's wrong ya. Tse Shuen will be leading the singspiration for the event, and so it'll be very appreciated if you guys who're experts in Chinese can help her with the CNY songs. Please sing loud loud k, so can cover for the kids who don't sing =P

It's been announced that the election's going to be held on March 8, meaning it clashes with our Saturday Games Day for
DMSJ. Therefore, after much consideration, the adults have decided to call off the afternoon session (we usually have team-building & icebreaker games in the afternoon), and just have the Fellowship Night instead. However, I just received word from Uncle Rodney that the SAGC and DGC folks have assured us that they will be here early. So it's on. Dots. Now have to crack head to plan games to accommodate probably 100 people and hunt around for a big field in tiny state. Sharma and Shuen are in charge of the Saturday session, and they've decided to get all 4 churches to present a 5-10 min item each after the singspiration. There might be a game or two, and SAGC will take the Message Session afterwards. Uncle Philip Lim's the Quizmaster this year! (he won't answer any of my questions on Judges =.= betul-betul accountant. tsk) Our judge for this year will be Shuen.

For those who haven't attended a DMSJ Quiz, lemme just give a brief overview of this annual big event.

There are 4 churches participating in the Quiz: Daya Gospel Centre (DGC), MGC (that's us!), Shah Alam Gospel Centre (SAGC), and Johor Bahru Gospel Centre (JBGC). A different book, either from the Old Testament or New Testament, is picked for the Quiz every year. Each church sends a judge to sit at a table each to read out the answers of the participants and make sure they don't copy each other's answers or have hidden answers somewhere up their sleeves. There're 3 main participants from each church, 1 reserve, and 2 floor members. There're dunno how many questions for each participant la, and 2 each for the 3 floor members (including reserve). After individual questions, there is the group session, where the participants from the same church gather together to answer as a group. The floor members basically answer True / False questions (sometimes quite hard wei,
don't play play~). Usually each church makes up a cheer for the Quiz. Usually. Our cheer 2 years ago was:
MGC Boleh-eh-oh-eh, oh-eh-eh-oh-eh!
A seruan to all MGC-ians out there (especially ex-MMU-ians who promised to be back =D) - Let's unite for this major event! MGC boleh kan? *imagines crowd cheering*

=D It's kind of hard to explain everything here. You really have to be there to truly experience it. Preparing for the Quiz is always tough, but in the end, we always end up the happy underdogs of the quiz ^_^" Yup, again, I repeat, MGC's semangat:
Kalah tak per, janji ada gaya!

visitin the old folks

alright. this is plagiarism. not so because i took it out of my own blog to paste here. *it's copy n paste here onwards*

anyways.

today is the 3rd day of CNY. we (ok lets name them - Ju , Chen Li, Jess, Mel, Sin Yee, Hwei, Shuen, Shaun, Sharma, Yik How and me) went to visit the old folks again. YAE! we did go back although not to plant flowers for them like we said we would. we gathered at the Bukit Baru Rumah Sejahtera Old Folks Home around 11 am. we brought 2 boxes of mandarin oranges and some ang paos for them. hwei is helping some friend with assignment so err... she did some reporter job. journalism course... dats y.

who would have thought old folks are so busy? but normally during the festive seasons where the dato's all over malacca came to visit. heard some Ghanni fella came to visit them on the 1st day of CNY and had lion dance for them. when we went there we were greeted by the Supervisor, Mr Chong (whom i thought was a Malay then was reluctant to call him Mr Chong).

moving on.

we didn't plan to do any performance so gathering at the hall was not necessary. before we could say that they rang the bell. ah freak. so we went in the hall, Sin Yee introduced us, and we started giving out the oranges and ang paos. there was this popo, she remembered us. WOOTS. er... it was like 2 weeks ago that we dropped by with RBS team. when i thought it would be just like what we did in during the RBS team week, it wasn't that similiar after all. after giving out the stuff we brought we wanted to get a start to talk to them lah. ahhh. those old folks remembered us. especially those tat we really talked to. felt welcome somehow. but sadly got others that came to visit, so we had to wait outside. Mr Chong was pretty ganas at halau-ing us. i didn't know just a simple visiting need to be planned in detail. i guess the time allocated and what we bring there have to be known to the Supervisor. anyways, it felt like Amazing Race. when we get out 1st chance we didn't do good and we had to start all over and get another waiting number. haha. but those old folks pretty grumpy when they had to go in n out the hall when people came visiting. i wonder if they were mad at us because were weren't very straightforward with what we doing. so it's like wasting their time in the hall. WE DIDN'T WANT THEM TO BE AT THE HALL AT THE FIRST PLACE WAD... perrrrrrrrrr.

all the other visitors were gone. we then found them at their respective houses to chit-chat with them. we barged into the ladies' houses 1st and were welcomed with open arms. it felt like normal visiting because the popos were like picking up the glasses and wiping tables... getting chairs for us and one even wanted to give us packet drinks. haha. i was reluctant to receive as there were only two. means those were for her. so none of the youth took it. she then went into her room to get asam for us. nice. we then headed to the next house where the men stayed. i didn't get the uncle's name the other time but i got it this time. it is Uncle Eric. he's the one i mentioned was from Singapore.

we left about 12pm. photos that are needed were taken. facts that needed to be jot down were hopefully jotted down. and we made some old folks happy. i think. they looked happy. overall it was alright lah.

so i was asked why i decided to visit the old folks. honestly i missed my grandma. but i did sort of promised them that i'll go back so i brought along some other kids lor. *scared to go alone mah* and just wanted to visit them and make them remember me. muhahhaha. i learn not to send my mom there ( i think most of the youth felt that way). how was i touched? just touched lah... can't explain. overall once again good experience. i noticed that the old folks dun really care whatever cacat topics we brought up, they will be happy even if we're just there for a visit. not promoting.

  1. distributing oranges
  2. that's the cute popo - Molly Lau, 87
*Note: I'm still in the process of uploading pictures so it'll take awhile for the post to really be compete. be patient! =)

Happy Chinese New Year!

Sorry for the lack of updates on this blog. Don't exactly have an excuse either ^_^" Anyway, we can't upload the video of the Christmas event just yet, because neither I nor Yen can transfer the memory from the cassette into the computer. Yen suggested taking it to the shop and asking the guy there to do it for us. So we'll see what happens next. Don't worry! It'll be up someday! (=.=) A bunch of us are going back to the Old Folks Home in Bukit Baru (the one we visited with the RBS team) to give the old folks mandarin oranges. Yen posted something about it here. It's very guilty-fying how we don't know the home's name. And it's difficult to google up, too. When we go this Saturday, we must most certainly make sure we find out the name of the home and make it known to at least all MGC-ians!

Most of what we did while the RBS team was here has been mentioned in some detail by Yen, so I'll just briefly outline all that's been going on during the RBS week:
  • 24 Jan, Thurs, 5.30pm: RBS team arrived at Melaka Sentral. Uncle Rodney,Daniel, Shaun, and I went to pick them up and sent them back to the church, after which we went out together for lunch at the Taman Asean Fish-Head Soup place (really good - try it).
  • 25 Jan, Fri, 12.30pm: Uncle Rodney, Mr Chua, Yen, Daniel, Jessica, Shaun, and I had lunch with the RBS Team at Sin Hoe Garden.
  • 25 Jan, Fri, approx. 2pm: Visit to the Old Folks Home. First time I've been to a Home. The caretaker's (if that's the right word) words rang through my head as I drove home: "When you grow up, don't bring your parents here."
  • 25 Jan, Fri, approx. 5.30pm: Tracting in Taman Sayang Selasih, and two other places, which I can't really remember, due to my buta jalanness. Sharma joined us for the tracting. Mr and Mrs Chua kindly made drinks for us after our tracting. We went for dinner at the Tengkera makan place afterwards.
  • 26 Jan, Sat, 4pm: RBS handled the Children's Hour and encountered the rascally Eric for the first time.
  • 26 Jan, Sat, 7.15pm: "Anything But Ordinary" Night. We sang songs, played a team-building game, heard testimonies, watched a skit, and listened to a short sharing by the RBS team leader. And of course we makan-ed.
  • 27 Jan, Sun, approx. 11.45am: Devotion-style Judges (for DMSJ) session with the RBS.
  • 27 Jan, Sun, 5.30pm: Football at Taman Sayang Selasih with the RBS team.
  • 28 Jan, Mon, 12pm: Mr Chua, Sharma, and I drove the RBS team to Melaka Sentral and they had lunch before going aboard (sounds wrong) the delayed Transnasional bus at 3pm.
Anyway, we're back to training the DMSJ contestants. How successful the training is... that will be revealed in time. Some of them are working really hard though, and that's a good thing.

Studying isn't everyone's favourite hobby, I guess (not saying it's mine!).

Well, the quiz's all for fellowship. But let's not shrug if off and slack because of that. Let's all work hard, work well and do our best at the quiz. Then we'll really be worthy of our trademark spirit:

Kalah tak per, janji ada gaya!

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!
