Ya I know. It’s super out-dated.

But better late than never.

I used to dread clean up. The church is old and tends to be ~~very much~~ a little dustier compared to your average home.

But it is kind of fun when we all do it together. ^_^

And even more fun to discover ‘treasures’ kept away in cupboards filled with layers of lizard shit and dust. Ok sounds disgusting but actually not.

Please pray for Celine, she'll be having her PMR examination starting from tomorrow. Pray for clarity of mind and focus that she may understand what the question wants and provide the right answer.

Thank God for Ah Derk is doing his internship here in Malacca! That means we'll be having him around for another 3 months at least! Whee!

Take time also to thank God for the things that have happened to us, for the things that didn't happen, and for Jesus. Have a nice week and may we all live our lives for His Glory!

My Gung Gung (My Grandfather)

Dear brothers and sisters,

As some of you know, my Gung-Gung (Grandfather) or, my mother’s father, the late Ong Tien Soo, passed away on the 15^th of August this year. It has been nearly a month since then.

Firstly, I would like to restate my thanks to the close support of the church family towards our biological one. Your prayers, thoughts and affection reflect the bond of Christ and the law He laid down for us. Most of all I also want to thank God and His son Jesus.

However, this focus of this post is not on thanksgiving. I was asked to write something for the MGC assembly to understand more about my late Gung Gung, whom I believe not many of you would have met. About his life I am certainly not the authority. Far from it, I think I’ve been a rather distant grandchild. There was a wall between us – not of bricks and clay, but of geographical distance, linguistic and cultural differences, and most of all, my own general disposition of apathy.

However, as his passing became imminent, those walls crumbled and love became a bridge. Throughout the 3 nights of wake service, I mostly listened to the chatter of the crowd. Vicariously, I got to know Gung Gung better.

This is what I can say:

My grandfather was a thoroughly admirable man. Having been separated from his family and brought to Singapore as a teenager, he started out his independent life under tough circumstances. Having had to eke out a living during those days, he experienced a hard life that many of us may never understand. Perhaps a night out on the boulevard with newspapers as a mattress will give us a taste.

By learning the trade on-the-go, my grandpa became a mechanic and eventually went on to own his own workshop. Then he got married and started a family, and that’s where we come in. My mom was his eldest daughter out of six children, who are all doing very well now.

My grandpa was a real family man. Although I think we never really could talk things out and show “care” for one another in a conventional sense, he spoke love in his own language.

I recall that when he found out that we liked to drink Yakult, he would personally ensure that a special compartment in the fridge is stocked up with the small, colourful bottles every time the children come to visit. He, and indeed my grandma, always wanted to bring us to McDonalds every time we came over in spite of the fact that both of them absolutely abhor the food there. My Ah Ma remarked that McD burger buns are like ‘cardboard’ :X But they’d always bring us there, because we used to like it a lot when we were kids.

These are just some of the things that I can talk about in this short blogpost –drops in an ocean. Believe me, my grandpa was a man with a lot of love.

Right after his baptism, days before his passing, Gung Gung told my Ah Ma that he had a vision:

‘He saw a big church. The doors of the church opened, and many people streamed out of it, carrying gifts for him’

The vision prompted him to inquire of my grandma whether he is “part of the church yet”. My grandfather actually accepted Christ a long time ago during a Billy Graham gospel mission, but only reaffirmed his faith this year.

For me, the answer to his question would of course be “Yes”.

I do believe that my grandfather now is not only rejoicing in heaven, but has had a lot of treasure waiting for him up there. I understand that he was a man that didn’t seek glory for himself but was thoroughly focused his loved ones.

Sure he joined the assembly of saints a little late. Yet, the last can be made the first. And the worker who joins at the eleventh hour will receive wages that the Master sees fit.

I look forward to meeting him again.

Announcement from the Elders

The Oversight wishes to inform that after listening to the various opinions regarding the changes mooted, and after prayerful consideration, the following decisions have been made:

The Lord's Supper

Original time 9:00am

New time 9:30am

When October 2011 onwards

WHY?

To accommodate the Young Adults who will be having their twice-a-month prayer and Bible study small group meeting on Saturday evening.
It is hoped that the later start will be more amicable to the University students who will be part of the Young Adults ministry.

Cell Groups

For those who are not currently attending any of the two existing house groups (see here) or will not be attending the Young Adults group, we wish to strongly encourage you to do so and for that reason we will assign every one to one or the other house group.

The two existing house groups will continue to meet at 8:15 pm on Fridays and the Young Adults Fellowship will meet on the first and third Saturday of each month.

On the 5th Saturday of the month, all the three groups will meet in MGC for a fellowship dinner and prayer.

Youth Meeting

Original time 12:00pm, Sunday

New time 4:00 - 6:00pm, Saturday (same as the Children's Hour)

The Oversight notes with satisfaction and with thanksgiving to our LORD, the active role played by the Young Adults in the teens and children work.

Extension

Cost RM95,000 (extension) + RM50,000 (air-con + furniture)

WHY?

To meet the space requirements of the various ministries.

We'll be starting in September because Uncle Anthony's awfully busy (always is, during festive seasons), so siapa-siapa yang ingin join, sila maklumkan kami so that we can make sure everyone goes home with a big stomach.

Aunty Lydia had water in one side of her lungs. That's what causing shortness of breath.

Test results were negative for TB. Doctors will perform some more test on the 11th August 2011 to find out what's wrong and at the same time flush out water from her lungs.

Pray for safety as she travels to KL on the 10th August.

Pray for peace and strength as the treatment is painful.

Pray that the doctors will be able to identify the problem and to administer appropriate treatment fast.

Thank God for Aunty Florence's successful operation!

Continue praying for speedy recovery and healing.

She had breathing difficulties and went for a test to find out what’s wrong.

Doctor suspects TB. If it isn’t, another test is required on the 9th August 2011.

Will notify as soon as we know the test results.

In the mean time, let’s continue praying for speedy recovery and strength for Aunty Lydia.

who has cyst in her brain and will be undergoing an operation this Thursday (4th August 2011) to remove the cyst.

The operation will be risky. Pray for alertness, precision and wisdom on the part of the medical staff and for strength, peace and safety for Aunty Florence.

MGC Family Day 2011

We had a family day recently.

The purpose was actually to celebrate the fact that we were family.

We may be from different background, different states, different race, even different families!

And yet we are still a family because of Christ.

And we played some games!

Oh ya, the elders also reported some proposals (inspired by some individuals) [edits in red]:

Youth Meeting Day & Time

Currently: Sunday, 12PM

Proposal: Saturday, 4PM

Reason: The Children's Hour work is growing, and a great number of them are going to move up into the Youth soon. The change of day and time would best suit this new development.

The elders thanked the youth for accommodating the changes. =D

When this will officially be carried out will be announced later.

Young Adults Cell Group

Proposal: Saturday evening, venue to be decided by the group.

Reason: The elders are concerned that the also growing number of young adults in MGC are not part of any cell group and don't have an avenue for peer support and corporate Bible study. Dr. Daniel has volunteered to lead the group!

Question: Apa umurnya ya? I said as soon as they start uni. Kah Wei said as long as don't have children. HAHA.

The first meeting will be on 16 July 2011 @ Dr. Daniel's house (Bukit Beruang), 8PM. Tell Shaun (016.321.5641) you're coming! There will be awesome food (Malacca is the land of food!), so come!

Prayer Meeting & the Lord's Supper

Proposal: Move Wednesday prayer meet and meditation to Sunday, 9.15AM, before the Lord's Supper, which will in turn be moved to 10AM.

Reason: Attendance for Wednesday prayer meets has been poor!

This proposal is subject to further consideration and a final decision by the elders. Please pray alongside the elders as they decide and consider our views. =D Tell them your views by the end of this month (July) so that they can get things moving.

Extension

Proposal: 1000 s.f. hall, air-conditioned, and additional toilet facilities for the men. (all the brothers say "YAY!") It will cost about RM100,000, excluding further furnishing.

Reason: The Children's Hour is seriously growing (I said this twice d, so it must be true) - about 60 children two weeks ago. I haven't gotten the statistics for the last week.

The elders request all members to consider this proposal in prayer, because funds are needed, and there are some other works to be considered, i.e. repairing the rotting kitchen top etc.

Ministry among the Parents

Proposal: A more structured ministry with the children's parents who attend the Children's Hour's special events, to encourage them to come on a weekly basis.

Reason: Chee Chee (Dr. Daniel's wife) had a session with the mothers during the last Children's Hour do, and they were very open and the need for a ministry has since been very apparent.

The elders urge mature members to come on Saturdays to talk and fellowship with these parents (usually mothers la) and to lend a hand in building up this ministry.

Maintenance

More members to come forward to be members of the maintenance ministry, because the maintenance of the church has for too long been taken for granted.

My personal opinion is besides the wiring and stuff, people should also be sweeping the floors and putting the hymn books back where they belong, even if they're not part of this ministry. Those who have been closing the windows after church are also ministering to the saints in the church. =D

So pray about all this k? I think it's really great that the elders are keeping us in the loop about all this. =D More updates to come, for those who have been faithfully checking this blog! =)

Dr. Daniel (also fondly known as Uncle Daniel) and his wife, Chee Chee (no picture of Chee Chee! Sob) attended MGC some years ago. Actually quite long ago la. Haha. They went to the UK, went back to Life Chapel in PJ, and are now back in MGC. Dr. Daniel's an oncologist in Pantai Hospital, and Chee Chee is taking care of their super enthusiastic, wide-eyed four kids full-time. They've been a great blessing ever since they came, and have expressed their desire to remain in Malacca to fulfill their God-given mission, as He reveals it to them little by little everyday. =D

Andy Mau has gotten in to USM! He'll be doing Computer Science, so pray that he may be able to settle those documents that need to be settled swiftly. Also, utilize him to the max during these last 3 months. :D

Simon is in the last 3 weeks of his course here. He has to post up a gallery about his final year project which will be seen by TV producers so that they may hire if it's good. Pray that he can do a good job. Also, he is on limited funds, so pray that whatever little he may have, God will use it to the max.

And lastly, pray for my friend's grandmother. She's suffering from an illness which is quite serious. The family is prepared but are praying for her salvation. Pray for that and also a heart to accept whatever outcome it may be.

She can eat nowadays lah, but must go slow...

Updates for the previous post

Well, sad to say, the dilation or in medical terms used by the Doctor, ballooning, didn't help much...
Medicine did worked for her a few days after the first ballooning was done, just to help the muscles in her oesophagal wall to contract and relax when she eats.... But only for a few days... =(

and tomorrow, my parents will be going up to KL at 5.00am to a hospital in KL, named Universiti Malaya Medical Centre to give my mum another ballooning, but this time, using a bigger 'balloon' as described by my mum. Her appointment is somewhere at 9.00am I think.

Please continue to pray for my mum that she will be able to endure all the pain and treatment that is to come, because she's getting weaker day by day(not to mention after vomiting)...
and that it will be successful!!
and may it be the Lord's will for her to be healed!!

My dad did told us not to tell people about this, and I know I'm going against my dad for this, but I felt the sense of urgency to ask the church for help to pray....

A prayer request

I know I don't blog here often but I need everyone's help right now and this very moment!!!

It's about my mum.... Well, if you do not know yet, recently, my mum's having very much difficulties in swallowing ANYTHING that she takes in, including drinking water... and most of the time, due to the pain in trying to swallow the food/drink(because the food's stuck), she vomits to ease the pain!!
So nowadays, she can hardly eat anything at all....

Doctor said it could be that the passageway in her oesophagus is blocked or something like that...
She went for scoping today and thank God, Doctor said there's no cancer cells in her body!

So, she'll be going for the dilation tomorrow and has to put a night in the hospital for observation.
That's a bit about the story...

Now PLEASE pray,

1) That the Lord will give her strength to endure all these difficult times
2) The process will be successful and Everything will go back to normal, i.e. she can eat like normal again.

Sarah's dad passed away yesterday (14 April 2011 - Thursday).

The wake service will be held at her home until Sunday.

The funeral (cremation) will be on Monday, 2pm at Jelutong.

Pray for strength, comfort and peace for Sarah and her family.

Let's continue to pray for the people in Japan, that they may be strong, and like posted before, rebuild their lives although from the rubble.

Also, continue to hold Michelle in prayer. She's supposed to attend school yesterday but it seemed as if things took a change. Pray for God's wisdom to be upon the doctors and Uncle Tony and Aunty Angelina to do what is necessary for Michelle. And not forgetting, God's healing hands upon her.

Lastly, Qi's SPM results will be out tomorrow! Pray for a heart to accept whatever result it might be, and also clarity as to what to do next.

The Christian Fellowship in UM has a room in one of the administrative buildings. We received a call one day telling us two of our ceiling panels collapsed, and the room was flooded from a leaky air-conditioner.

I remember looking at the broken pieces of the ceiling and the flood of water on the ground and feeling utterly devastated. Not because I didn't think I could clean up, but because there was just so much to do that shouldn't have needed to be done, and I didn't know where to start.

I had to ber-monologue, telling myself to do this and to do that, start here and go on over there, to get myself to move into action.

My experience was half a room of broken piece of ceiling and a room of air-conditioner water,

The Japanese's experience is a nation shaken by a quake and a land swept by a tsunami.

Defeat is one of the most overwhelming feelings to bear, and defeat is what our Japanese brothers and sisters are feeling.

Even if they rebuild their lives, where do they begin?

We would like to congratulate Adrian and Celine for their brave effort yesterday. There were no experienced pianists during Sunday Worship. After a few songs sung without the piano, Adrian and Celine then stepped up and went to the piano to play for the remaining Worship. We, as the Church, are very proud of you two for what you've done and do hope that both of you will continue pleasing God by serving Him. Well done!

Please do pray for Qi and Yik How, and Andy who will be taking their SPM and STPM respectively. Same goes to Jessica, Daniel, Hwei and other University students in their exams. They've just finished their first week of exam, so pray for continued strength from the Lord and a good mind to be able to sit for the remaining papers. Pray also for good health for the whole month of exam.

Pray for Simon. He applied for internship in 8TV and also NTV7. The slots for internship are few, so pray that he may get a place in either one of those TV stations, and if not, God will guide him to another place for the internship.

Pray for Sally, Adrian, and Kenneth who are involved in the MMU Christmas play. They look tired so pray for strength as well and not losing sight of the goal of preaching God's love to their non-Christian friends.

Pray for the Christmas event in our church. Pray for Juliana as the organiser that she may not leave out any detail and be able to direct the play in the best possible manner. Lastly, pray that God may be with us all, for anything without His consent is useless. For teachers and students, enjoy your holidays and spend them wisely. Whee!

Xtraordinary Youth!

That was the topic for the Youth yesterday. It was taken by Joshua Liang of Focus on the Family. He told us not to despise our youth and that we can still do many things in spite of our age. He gave 6 steps to being Xtraordinary:

1. Strive for Excellence
To do our very best as if doing it for the Lord. Colossians 3:23

2. Helping Others
He gave a story about Zack Hunter, who was 12 years old when he launched Loose Change to Loosen Chains in a bid to raise awareness and funds to end slavery.

3. In-Depth Friendships
To put simply, he quoted Anon, "I went out to find a friend; but found no one. I went out to be a friend; and there were friends everywhere." To find a friend that you can really trust and connect well, you have to be that friend first.

4. Never Give Up
Many famous and successful people in the past have failed before becoming who they were known to be. A fine example would be Peter the apostle, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Edison. If you've never failed, that means you've never lived.

5. Encounters that are Intentional
To deliberately be with Jesus and feel Him in spite of the busyness of the world. True spirituality isn't about retreating from the world to find Jesus, but finding Him in the world.

6. Seize every Opportunity
He shared with us the Latin word Carpe Diem. It means seizing every opportunity and Ephesians 5:16 bears the meaning. Carpe Diem by itself is not enough, as you need Coram Deo too. Together, Carpe Diem Coram Deo means seizing every opportunity in God's presence.

With these 6 steps, he or she S.H.I.N.E.S for God.

Joshua is having mixed aortic valve disease with large PDA and corarctation (blockage of the main artery).

Surgery must done asap.

Joshua is scheduled for an operation tomorrow morning at 9 am to close the hole and unblock the artery.

Please pray for Joshua's safety and also wisdom, alertness and steady hands for the doctors and nurses.

Baby Joshua

At the time of writing, the Cheah's are in Ipoh.

Baby Joshua's lung didn't close properly, so he's having difficulty breathing. The blood circulation is also now direct - the blood passes through the heart, but doesn't stop there. (I'm no Science student, so I don't really understand)

Joshua's experiencing something called the "Patent Ductus Arteriosus". In short PDA.

We have two main arteries. One to distribute blood to all parts of the body (Aorta), One to carry blood from heart to lung (Pulmonary artery). The baby doesn't use his/her lungs during pregnancy (Oxygen provided by the mother). Flow from the right ventricle needs an outlet (which is through the patent ductus). When the baby is born, the patent ductus should close within 24 hours. When it doesn't, it's PDA.

He's going for an operation on Monday to seal the hole, so pray that the doctors will be careful, and that the operation will go well.

Pray also for Geng Yi and Grace!

Uncle Rod, Kah Wei, Sharma, Shaun, Shuen, Sin Yee and Wei Jin (sorry if I missed out anyone - I wasn't there.) went up to Shah Alam on Friday for Simon's father's wake service. Jessica and I went for the funeral service on Saturday. Simon thanks MGC-ians for cheering him up by making him laugh so hard on Friday.

He'll be staying on to help his mum and sis wrap up some things, and should be heading back to Malacca on Wednesday. Otherwise, it'll be Sunday.

Pray that God will be with Simon and his family, and that Simon will find a Father in Him.

It's sad for me to update this on the blog but Simon's father has passed away this morning. According to the message received by Simon:

"After yesterday's surgery, everything was fine until between 5-6am. The doctor called saying my father's condition had changed due to blood pressure dropping continuously and having breathing difficulty. These resulted to him having heart-attack-like condition. Finally, my father was announced dead at around 6.30am."

On behalf of the church, we send our condolences to you and your family, Simon. On a positive side, he is a Christian, so he's gone to a better place to be with God. If I may recall what Uncle Dexter said about Raymond, "We may love him, but God loves him more to bring him back to Him."

Let us as fellow brothers and sisters continue to pray for Simon and his family. It's a tragic loss to bear, but God will sustain them and bring them through this testing time. He has always done so, and will do the same.

Please pray for Simon's father. He is either having a heart surgery now or later. It was supposed to be on the 17th November but has been brought forward to today. It's a surgery that will take 6 hours. Pray that God will give the doctors necessary skills and alertness while performing on his father and that the surgery will be quick and successful. Pray as well for the family, that they be strong in this hour and also for Simon, that he may be positive in his studies and other areas in spite of this matter.

Today(Sunday) is Frederick's last day with us in MGC! OH NOES!!!! Yep, he has already finished his course and will be working in Singapore soon. It's quite sad la... because Singapore don't have good food like Malacca.

Anyway, it was great joy and fun since you came here 5-and-a-half years ago. Yep, it's been that long! The first time you stepped into MGC, I was just in Form 1! I still remember seeing this tall dude with earrings and I was like, "Wah! So modern wan ar?"

I think you're also one of two guys in church with a ponytail! The other being Geng Yi!

Back then, Mark was fetching you to church with his Saga. But 5 years later, you're the one, in your own Saga, fetching new MMU students like Sally and Kenneth. You seemed like a reserved guy at first, but then it was totally a misconception! You were daring enough to participate in the Treasure Hunt and that disproves shyness to the max!

See! Not shy to pose for the camera, unlike Sharma!

You also play the piano well, not to mention the drums, or the guitar. Heck, you can be a one-man band if you want to! It was a real encouragement to see you do what you do with the instruments despite your condition. Thank you for those times when you played for the youth and who could forget the time you chaired the youth event so well? It's just a shame we did not utilize you enough, and for that, we apologize.

Ain't you lovin' it?

As you go on to a new chapter of your life, we hope that you'll look back in this chapter and be glad. Do give any of us a call if you need anything alright? Also, continue to serve the Lord, be it in Singapore, Ipoh, or Malacca. It is sad to see a fellow Mangkuk leave, but the time had to come, and the time is now. So do take good care of yourself and spread the Mangkuk love around in Singapore alright?

Yik How was discharged yesterday! His platelets count went back up to 100+ so the doctor was satisfied and let him off! The doctors still do not know what was the cause behind the drop in platelets but according to Kah Wei, it's an idiopathic disease.

The word comes from Greek, idios meaning one's own and pathos, suffering. The term is used for diseases which arise spontaneously from an unknown cause. Something caused the platelets in Yik How to go low but whatever did what it did is unknown. Shuen says the doctors came up with idiopathic because, they felt like an idiot and pathetic for not knowing the cause of the disease.

Anyhow, regardless of history, let's just be thankful that Yik How is alright again and thank God for His mercy.

Please do pray for Joel. Uncle Rodney messaged saying he fractured his ring finger in school yesterday. Pray that he may be able to recover properly and be healed!

Yik How (Sin Yee's brother) was admitted into the General Hospital yesterday (27.9.10).

As per sms from Sin Yee, yesterday his platelet count was 0. Today (28.9.10) it was 5.

They sent his blood to KL for testing.

He's warded at new building, Aras 3, Ward 2.

Please pray for Ken and Joel who'll be taking UPSR this coming Tuesday. Oh noes! Sometimes it feels like we're worrying more than them huh? But I guess they have that fear as well so let's pray that for these next 2 days, God will give them awesome memory power and that they may not panic on that day!

Pray for Kiat Siong and Wei Ming (Wei Jin's bro!) who will sit for PMR next month too.

Qi is having her SPM trial exam now. Pray for wisdom and discipline!

Andy will be having his STPM trial exam this week so pray for the Facebook temptation to depart!

Hi, everyone. Long time no read/write.

This is just to update those who haven't been in Malacca lately.

MGC has been robbed. Again. I lost count of how many times it's happened.

Will do without the details for now, because I'll post pictures tomorrow (or later).

Long story short, we are now officially short of seven wall fans and two amplifiers.

Oh ya, before this particular robbery, there was another one where they took our projector. So when you next come to MGC, don't look up at the ceiling near the spotlights anymore, cuz there ain't much there except the ceiling.

I'm still with my theory that those thieves:

Are not drug addicts.
Are lazy people who wanna open restaurant but got no money to buy the necessaries, and so
They rob the buildings in the area of the necessaries i.e. fridge (in 2007, remember?), forks and spoons, kettle, standing fan... and
We should check out restaurants built between 2007 & 2010.

I'm getting very irritated with these people. The stuff are stuff, God will repay and take care of His house. But I'm very annoyed with people who steal because they like to steal AND people who steal because they're too lazy to see that they're too lazy to make a living with their own two hands AND people who break into the church just for fun.

A shoutout to the thieves:

Our church is not a two-yuan store!

That's that.

Now, I urge YOU, Mr/Ms./Mdm/ Reader to please take 20 seconds to pray for the church and the people who did this. Between the church and the thieves, I think the thieves need way more prayer, but let's give the church 10 seconds too anyway.

Well, since Shaun pointed out a lot of things to pray for,
I have a small request too...

Please pray for MHS Christian Fellowship club to continue to stay strong!! The club's dying... members are declining at a fast rate.... and...
What worse is that, our current Teacher Advisor, Miss Priscilla, will be leaving VERY soon.. somewhere in early July!!! and according to her, none of the teachers would want to take over the club after she leaves...

Miss Priscilla and myself are very worried about what might happen to the CF in the school... If they found out we have a club WITHOUT a teacher advisor, the CF's going down!!! and yes, down!!! They're gonna close down the club and High School wont have a CF anymore... And it will be VERY the VERY difficult to start back a CF club in MHS... with all the Malay adminstrators... they might not even approve!!

So, from the bottom of our hearts, we ask every single soul reading this post to pray for us!!
Pray that our members will remain faithful to serve the Lord whole heartedly!!
and also, for the Lord to touch the hearts of the teachers to willingly take over the club!!

Pray for the committee as they'll be having meetings lots and lots for the next couple of weeks. It's just 2 weeks away before the camp now!

Please pray for:

Melissa as she is the middle person between our church and the others. Like Kenneth said, she's the mediator!

Sharma and myself as we come up with the plan for the games. It's a bit tough to think of the sequence of games as exact distance from one location to another is unclear.

Please continue to pray for Mrs. Chua's brother. He got admitted into the hospital again. He has difficulty in breathing, high blood pressure and is a diabetic. Pray that God will touch his heart that he may believe and be saved.

Pray for the Uni students. Probably all of them are going through exams now. Hwei and Daniel should be over pretty soon since they started theirs earlier. Pray for Adrian and Kenneth. Having their finals this week and next I think.

Please pray for Mrs. Chuah's brother. He went for an eye operation. Now, the doctors can't stop the bleeding. Pray that it will actually stop before he loses too much blood.

Bleeding has stopped! Thank God the doctors knew the cause of the bleeding. He's out of operation now, but still need monitoring because his blood pressure is still high and he's diabetic. Mrs. Chuah would like to thank all who have prayed. Please pray also for his salvation.

My siblings and I were introduced to Sunday School by our cousins. As a small kid, I enjoyed the crafts and stories and songs in Sunday School tremendously. The church was quite a distance from our home, so there was a school bus that would come to take us to church. There were also passionate and loving teachers in the church who came to visit us in our homes when we went missing for weeks. One particular teacher was named Shirley. She made various efforts to reach out to us i.e. sent us photos and letters when were missing from Sunday School. As a child she impressed upon my heart to never deny Christ, lest He denies us before the Father in heaven. Though I was not baptised then, the lessons in Sunday School cultivated in me a clear stand that my allegiance was with Christ. Once in Primary Six, my class teacher asked who were the Christians in class, and I blushingly raised my hand because I had never openly professed myself to be one before.

I dropped out from church for the next four years, until in Form Four, when my cousin took me to an evangelistic meeting in her church where I re-dedicated my life to Christ. That same year I returned to church and was warmly received into the youth by my one and only peer Beng Hui who was passionate about people and about the Lord. That same year, our dearly beloved teacher Shirley went back to be with the Lord. Before she was bedridden, she taught the youth one last time. Her final message was: never, never, never deny the Lord.

We were very small in number back then. But the fellowship was warm. Being a small group, everyone was roped into the planning meetings and the sense of belonging was strong. A young and beautiful lady named Priscilla became my mentor and gave me weekly studies of God's Word. She must have heard the bleeping of a lost sheep in me and took me to the green pastures weekly where we shared God's Word and shared the pains of growing up together.

After four years in the youth, I left home to further my studies. The same year, my younger brother received the Lord in a local Chinese church. My mum has received the Lord there too, so we would take her to worship in the Chinese church when we come home. Our mum is slowly but surely growing in her faith. Her main fears are being persecuted for her faith and losing her children to ministry. Haha.

The years after I completed my studies were turbulent and I was at the lowest point of my faith as I was coming to terms with a series of tragic events. The same time, a good friend (my best friend and hubby now) was seeking God with his own sets of questions. We came to a small secluded church named Luther House Chapel. "Chapel" strikes me as a quiet peaceful place like MGC, where my faith was fresh and simple. After the first visit, we continued to worship there and found answers to our nagging questions. Today, known as Antioch Christian Church, this is where we seek God and serve our community. I found my place among the children while my hubby serves the worship team and the youth. It has been both a joy and a challenge to serve these little monsters-angels. (Just as how it must have been for the folks in MGC who taught me and my siblings.) Antioch is a small church, the workers are few, the children are unruly and we have much to learn. Thankfully, we have the privilege of learning from the seasoned people of SS2 Gospel Centre's King's Kids who provide us with wise insights and training.

I am really thankful to God for MGC and the persevering people. Thank you for the seed you planted in us as children. Thank you for your passion and patience that saw us through the silly years of our youth. And thank you for your influence in my ministry today.

DMSJ 2010: Update (finally)

Am so sorry to have kept you guys waiting. Didn’t realize the level of curiosity was so high till Olive asked about DMSJ. =D

Anyway!

MGC was the earliest to arrive! (DGC doesn’t count ok duh)

We hung around, talked to DGC-ians, had lunch,

...spilled Milo over shirts, almost got whacked by flying plates (not making this up), and…

downloaded Ruth & Esther! =D

DGC renovated the church not too long ago, and this is what it looks like:

There weren’t the usual outdoor games this year (yay), probably because the Quiz was to be in the afternoon. We had a few indoor games, then the Quiz began.

And.

I have no photos.

Because!

I stuck my memory card into the space under the memory card slot, and so now I can’t get it out, and I couldn’t take many photos cuz my phone, when running on phone memory, takes pictures awfully slowly, and people kept moving or walking by whenever I wanted to take a good shot. T_T

Anyway, as to the results of the Quiz, this conversation with Olive may suffice:

That aside, I really think Celine, Jessica, and Qi did very well, considering the fact that they forgot Naomi’s sons’ names and didn’t know how to spell “Orpah” on the Thursday before the Quiz. I think we (they) put up a decent fight, and probably only lost because of the many mathematical questions that were thrown very vigorously at us (them). Seriously, a lot of math questions. I would’ve died up there. *bah*

Congratulations also to the floor members: Adrian, Shaun, Shuen. All questions correctly answered! =D

Next was Fun Nite!, which I didn’t take any photos of also *paiseh*, but it was different this year. Instead of the usual do-an-almost-impromptu-skit-of-a-passage-from-DMSJ-book, each group (6 groups this year) was given two pairs of chopsticks and two pairs of socks. In true Whose Line Is It Anyway? style, the groups did all sorts of things with the items that made my jaw drop quite a lot of times.

I thought it was a pretty good idea, actually. With the usual skits, all we get are variations of one same story. With this new format, we get almost total diversity, which always makes for good fun. =)

Our topic for today's Youth Meeting was living by God's standards/principles. It's more about how we should react when faced with grey areas. Grey areas are situations where the Law of the Land and God's Word do not cover or seem to be silent about. Examples of it would be smoking, drinking, etc, etc.

We should always base our decisions on these grey areas upon God's Word. God's Word is absolute. It is righteous, true, and eternal. It never changes. The 3 Rules made 2 weeks ago serve as a reminder to us as well when we make these decisions.

1. Whether your conscience is alright.
2. Is your fellow believer stumbled in your action?
3. What is the impression a non-believer gets when he sees your action?

To start out the meeting by placing the importance of rules, Sharma played a game. We're all stranded in this big island (not Pulau Besar in Malacca) and the boys and girls need to come up with rules regarding 3 matters: Food, Land, Leadership.

Well, guys simply being guys, we came up with 5 simple rules:

1. All for one, and one for all!
2. Double Tap. Must find double the amount of food, guys eat a lot.
3. Wherever we set our foot upon is our land.
4. We choose our leader by democracy. We want a leader with the biggest tummy. Ken wins.
5. When got beer, must share with everyone. Where there is great beer, there is great people!

I'm not sure about the girls' rules because they had 10 and the rules are ~~a bit, slightly, very, absolutely biased~~ unique. You decide that yourself. Any of the girls to edit up the rules here would be great.

GIRLS' RULES

1. Seduce boys at 8pm to get food.

2. 6AM-7PM are boys' time to work.

3. Boys haven't bath cannot come near us.

4. Women should have bigger land because we need to have walk in closet.

5. Tse Shuen will be the Queen. We follow ant colony's style.

6. Matriato system (Women above men)

7. Men gather food, women shall eat.

8. Men need to pay toll.

9. Guys will have food ration.

10. Those who breaks the rule shall be "kucified" (a.k.a tickled)

I was reading previous posts on church activities, and I realised it's not hard to see that we get our success from God. A notable one is from the Christmas Musical back in 2006. I think many will remember if I told them I was the dumb guy acting that day.

I went back 4 years and read Hwei's post on it (however long it was). I knew there were problems but Hwei seemed to mention more haha. It's amazing how we pulled through in spite of numerous setbacks. The flood, no tinsel, change of script, last-minute pull-outs; All of this would easily derail a potentially good event. And yet, by God's help, we did it that night. The crowd came, we adapted, we got closer to friends, they heard the gospel.

May the Christmas Musical remind you just as it has done to me of how God's hand was working through all of us, and will continue to work if we just rely on Him. Whenever we feel down or disappointed, look to this event or the other events that we have done, and say,

"Yes, Lord. You are here. Give me Your strength to do Your work."

And then look up, and work.

How's everybody doing? Good? Not good? If you are, good! If you aren't and need us to pray, just request it and we shall!

Firstly, let's thank God for Jessica's results. They're awesome results. Go ask her if you don't know ya. Pray that she may be able to hear what God wants her to do next. It's a tough choice to make, so we pray that she will know. Sharma passed his ACCA paper too! One more to go before becomes a professional!

Pray for Geng Yi too. You guys remember his modelling company? It's growing fine but there are a few problems here and there. There's a client who is not paying money to him after using the company's services. Pray that he may be able to get the proper amount from this client and that things may go smoothly. Also, pray that he as the company's head, may know clearly the direction the company will be going and to be Christlike in all manners when doing business.

Pray for Timothy Keong. He attended MGC for a few months when in MMU but then went to Cyberjaya to study after that. If you can't remember him, ~~he's the dude who roars when playing Captain Ball~~ he's in between Hwei and Unc Rodney in the MGC blog banner. He's in his final year already and we all know how tough it gets.

As for Simon Lye who's back with us, pray that he may get a new place to stay. Government took back the building he was in so he has to move out by April and stay in another place. He's in his final year too. Pray that he can juggle the time between finding a place to stay and assignments.

On Saturday we'll be having the Children's Hour Picnic. Pray that those helping out can control the kids and that they may have a good time.

I may not even be the son of....

The familiar face, Hercules.

I may not even be the son of Hades (i'm not sure who's his son),

Hades.

But i'm actually much more than that. I'm one of the sons of The Most High (Psalm 82:6). I am redeemed by His own blood. I am saved. I have been shown mercy over and over again. And He did all of those simply and plainly because He loved me too much. Too much till predestined that I will be His son (Romans 8:30).

Because He loved me in abundance, I am going to trust in him. I'm going to walk with Him, by faith, not by sight. I am going to count on Him in times of trouble. And I'm going to try my best to give Him all glory without having some to myself. The temptation is there, but with His help, I can do it.

I may not be one of the sons of the Greek gods. But I am indeed the son of the Living God. I may not have super strength nor am I super smart, but I am weak. For when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:10). In my weakness, I will be shaped to be stronger.

I am glad that I am the son of the One and Only Living God. Not some myth.

p/s : if u guys pay enuff attention, in movies about some mythical gods, the narrator would probably say "Some may say... some may say..." For example, "some may say, the gods are angry with us, some may say that the gods came down and lie with humans" but as you can see, they are "may"s... Which means, they are not backed up by real facts. They are just myths.

But we Christians, we have solid proof which is known as... The Bible.
The more reason why you and I should study it even more so we wouldn't be lacking.
So, when u're free, do study the Bible. As I will too.

Three person stood up to share their experience with Raymond.

For Mrs Chua, Raymonds a helpful person. He wouldn't say no as long as he could help. Raymond was a thoughtful person. He occasionally sent her home after service on Sundays. He always gave her cookies that his mom made.

For Daniel See, Raymond was a brother who loved serving the Lord. Even while he was in Korea, he served. Raymond was a perfectionist. Whatever he does, he wants it done well. Raymond was a responsible and obedient son. He loved and cared for his family.

For Cassie, Raymond was a man after God's own heart. He sought the Lord consistently through Bible reading, songs and prayers. Even in their phone conversations, they would praise and worship God. Raymond's a prayer warrior. He insisted they prayed every night before they sleep and every morning after they woke up. Raymond trusted God.

Theme verse: It is better to take refuge in the Lord, than to trust in man.
(Psalms 118:8)

Uncle Kian Boon spoke.

Raymond's life centered around Christ. Raymond was exemplary in speech, character and life. At home, he contributed to the family's welfare and looked after his younger siblings. At work, he was diligent, accountable and always eager to learn. In any relationships, he showed much love and care. In speech, he was always careful and decent. In faith, Raymond showed purity. He tries hard to be pure in heart.

Such was the life of Raymond. He could claim the words of Paul.

"For me to live is Christ, to die is gain"

Because to die means to be with Christ.

Let us be reminded that Raymond is indeed in a far better place, with his dear Lord.

Science boast about discoveries and advancement. People live their lives in ways that shows they don't need God. Everything that needs to be discovered has been discovered.

But the virus slowly ate away Raymond's life.

And the doctors remained clueless as to what it was.

We have been praying. Hard. Everywhere, Christians from everywhere.

Because we know our only hope is God in this hopelessness.

In the end, we need God.

Raymond was a quiet man. A man of few words.

Yet in his sufferings, he never complained. He never question God.

His silence showed the unwavering faith and trust that he had in His God.

Mr. See always said this when Raymond was ill, "Just leave everything to God"

Would any of us have such courage and trust in times of tribulation and trials?

"Lord, the one you love is sick."

Even those God loves fall sick.

God loved Raymond.

And at his death bed, God was there in that very room, to take him home.

Jesus wept.

Jesus wept for a loved one.

Jesus is weeping now as he sees our grief, as he sees us weeping for the loss of a loved one.

God knows and understand.

Raymond's time on earth has ended and it was time to go home.

A summary of what he said:

Yesterday when Raymond closed his eyes and fall asleep, he woke up in glory.

It's ok to weep, to cry and to grieve over Raymond's death.

God gave us tears for us to cry, and even Jesus wept over the loss of a loved one.

We mourn so that we don't forget.

We mourn to remember that Raymond loved not only his family and fiance, he loved God.

When Elijah was taken up to heaven, Elisha was sad.

All that's left behind was Elijah's cloak.

Elisha took the cloak, wore it, and pick up where Elijah left.

Likewise, let's not forget Raymond's dedication, love and work for the Lord and pick up where he left.

Raymond did not escape the unknown disease. But he has beaten the grips of the devil.

Finally, to all who ever knew Raymond,

Be there.

Cling to our faith and be there so that one day we'll all meet again.

Raymond’s mouth come out a lot of saliva so nurse have to use a machine to suck it out from his mouth. If nurse is busy, we have to use tissue to wipe his saliva. Doctor said his brain is 60% dead, 40% still can use.

Updates on Raymond.

This week, the hospital transferred him from ICU to normal ward mainly because the ICU is crowded. There's only like 8 units in ICU.

Uncle See said that Raymond's blood pallet is down to 7. Normal blood pallet is 120? I think.

Brain infection is spreading.

He is getting weaker.

Uncle See said that Raymond is in no condition to transfer to KL.

Uncle Rodney spoke on sufferings today. On how we cannot understand why there are sufferings and why good people seem to have bad things happening to them.

Two thoughts:

God is near when He feels far.

God is on time even though He seem late.

Let's keep praying.

21 January 2010.

Updates from Daniel See:

#1 Raymond might be transferred to KL Hospital by tomorrow or the next day, but don't know which KL hospital yet. All KL Hospitals don't want to accept Raymond.

#2 KL doctors will only accept Raymond if my parents allow them to do some experiment on him, but my parents don't allow them to do any experiment on him.

#3 Wanna inform you that Baptist Church @ Durian Daun is also praying for Raymond. Praise be to the Lord because now churches are not thinking about denominations or what church anyone is from. We are all in the body of Christ.

#4 My mother talked to Raymond while he was in a coma. She told him to get well soon because CNY is getting nearer and nearer, so that Ray can also celebrate together. After that although Ray's eyes were closed, we saw tears roll out of his eyes... Raymond responded with tears...

#5 Ray's eyes can't close, even though the doctor tried to close his eyes. Ray's eyes are starting to develop bacterial infections because his eyes are open 24 hours. Doctor had to use a special glue to temporarily glue his eyes shut from bacterial infections.

The whole thing is so bizarre. It’s like the rest of us are lagging behind wondering what this is all about while God talks to the doctors. As hopeless and helpless as we feel, let us remember that He lets us know what we cannot do so that we may know what He can do. In our weakness His strength is made perfect! (2 Corinthians 12:9)

There are friends praying everywhere – friends from Temerloh GC, Shah Alam GC, Bandar Tek GC (Kajang), Baptist Church Malacca, RBS (Uncle Dex, Uncle Hilmy…), people in Malacca, people outside Malacca, people outside Malaysia, friends who’ve seen our blog posts, our Facebook status updates, and our MSN display names…

People are praying just because a brother is in pain. The Lord moves, and He moves in His own way. He will be faithful to finish the work He began in Raymond. (Philippians 1:6) We, in turn, must continue to be faithful to pray for our brother.

I and Auntie Dolly managed to meet Dr. Udaman so he requested to try new medication. Just trust the Lord will do His part.

Raymond is very dear to those who can't be home too.

Mel suggested fasting and praying for Raymond at lunchtime, then breaking fast at 7pm.

For those of you who missed this (because you were at school and we didn't SMS you because you were at school), try this tomorrow. Don't just fast and not pray - that's dieting.

Doctors say the virus has spread to more parts of his brain. "Anything can happen..." They don't know what virus it is, but they suspect it's a kind of JE.

The doctor said, about Raymond’s condition, we have to be prepared emotionally. He is not doing well. No blood in the brain but the CT scan shows that the brain infection is getting worse.

Jan 9, 2010 - Hoped you recovered sooner (30th Dec 2009)

Your hands are already weak that time. You needed me to feed you a bread the first thing when i reached pantai malacca. That time i wasn't aware that you were slowly feeling very weaked in health. the whole night you were letting me know that you are cold... i remembered seeing you shivering since i met you on the 3rd.

You go through so much more than i could imagined =(. I feel for you. Because i know how difficult is it for you. To see yourself in this condition. You were the person who told me...you are very afraid of needles and hospitals.

this is one of the biggest test that i ever had with you...

i really wished that you can get better.

But it seems that God still continue to allow things that we thought we couldn't handle to happen.

Everyday is worry some to take care of you...but i've learnt to be a bolder person for you. Learning to take notice...the detailed way to take good care of you can make sure you are resting properly. I was learning to be a very independent person. And to decide for you as well.

Jan 11, 2010 - Raymond's Church friends encouragement

Yesterday I went to Malacca Gospel Chapel for worship. I could feel the sense of being belong to our Father in heaven. I know for sure God is out there and in our presence to listen to His little child cries.

"Jesus Shall Take the Highest Honour" - this song was shared by Darel yesterday during worship. I sung to you when you were already awake. With thankful hearts after we all met you...we were singing in the car...that is the first time I sense the joy and the contentment about your condition. =) maybe i'm already taking it as, God will heal you in His time. I can't wait for you to read these that I've been writing here.

Jan 11, 2010 (later) - Viral Encephalitis (it might be)

Initially we thought that they moved him to a 4 person room because his health condition is much better, but she say he hadn't progress.

She just told us his limbs cant be moved. He'll be given phisiotherapy. And he still couldn't breath on his own. If he still can't breath in another 4 days...they'll need to put a hole in his throat so that he can breath better and more care can be taken. Whatever things that the doctors say at this moment of time seems negative now but I still believe in miracles. I will never give up believing my dearest will be well.. =)

Jan 12, 2010 - Brain Scan & Second Lumber Puncture

We just all need to stay strong in the Lord and continue to pray to the Lord that the doctors will have to wisdom. And also that the doctors will get to find out why this happened to raymond. He is getting weaker each day we see him. Just need prayer for God's miraculous healing power.

Do pray for Raymond See. He is now in General Hospital and they have spent ALOT but the doctors are still unable to diagnose the cause of his illness. According to Uncle Rodney, he's in serious condition. So, do pray for him. A lil extra, he was tested negative for H1N1 and also negative for dengue. So, his condition is pretty critical. Do pray for him if u do read this k? Spent like 1 or 2 minutes praying also will do d.

Shaun left for Taiping on Sunday to attend a more-than-a-month-long Bible School called GLO.

Jessica is considering going for GLO a week later.

Yik How just got discharged from Pantai Hospital. He had dengue.

Raymond (See) is still in the hospital. Chen Li and Beng Hui said he was shivering badly. He's feeling chilly, but his temperature shoots up if the nurses cover him with a blanket.

School and semester alike have begun (with semester beginning earlier for a certain undergraduate =.=).

Marcus, Livia and Jeremy are still in Malacca! Hurry up and visit them!

Youth meetings will be on Sunday, 12pm, from now on. Reasons will be given later. I have class now (late d). Ahaha.

that's all i can think of at the moment. gotta go. ta!
